Student Organization Advisor Award

James A. Barnes Memorial Award

Outstanding Faculty Awards

Student Organization Advisor Award

Faculty advisors have been a part of students' extracurricular activities since the 1890s when the administration encouraged the development of student organizations in order to discourage young men from frequenting local saloons. Today, these faculty and staff advisors still play a vital role in the lives of our students. They give of themselves and their time to enhance the cocurricular experiences of our students and are truly educators outside the traditional boundaries of a classroom. In recognition of the work that student organization advisors do above and beyond their professional responsibilities, the ASUI has created the Outstanding Student Organization Advisor Award.

Eligibility:

Each nominee must be a University of Idaho faculty or staff member who serves as advisor to a recognized student organization. His/her role as advisor must be above and beyond other professional responsibilities. People who have student organization advising responsibilities as part of their employment duties are not eligible.

Selection Criteria:

UI students, faculty, staff and administrators are eligible to nominate candidates for this award. Self-nominations will also be accepted. Please use the award application in the back of this booklet, filling out applicable information. When filling out the application and letter, please take into account the following areas:

Students' extracurricular activities in the 1890s were more regimented than today. For social activities, students formed organizations such as The Mandolin and Guitar Club, pictured here (1900).
